Golden Rule BBQ

Golden Rule BBQ, according to the company's Web site, started WAYYYYY back in 1891 in Irondale, Alabama. In 1973, they opened a second location on US 31 in Hoover, and sold it to a franchisee in 1976. Now they've got several locations in Alabama and one in Tennessee. That includes the Birmingham Airport location that infuses the whole entry hall with hickory smoke smells.

Sticky Lips Pit BBQ

You will, no doubt, wait in a line to eat at Sticky Lips Pit BBQ in Rochester, NY.

Actually, it isn't a line at all.

You'll be waiting in two small adjoining rooms with dozens of people listening for your name to be called before you head upstairs for a table.

(The folks that keep the list and call the names also have well-stocked beverage coolers behind them and under the counter where they are more than happy to take drink orders to all who are waiting).

This place is popular. The food is worth the wait.

Beale Steet Cafe

Every day is Mardi Gras at Beale Street Cafe in Webster and downtown Rochester, NY as authentic Cajun cuisine is on a menu that includes various kinds of pit-smoked BBQ.

This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants in the Rochester area.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has three locations in New York so there is no excuse for missing this eatery if you are in the area. We're regulars at the Rochester, New York location. It is a great place to take out-of-town visitors because the food is always predictably good and the atmosphere of the building and the downtown riverfront setting is unique.

I'll almost bet anyone that they will have a hard time finishing any regular entree as the plates are large and the food is stacked high.

Get there early when there is a band playing live blues.

The Smokey Pig Restaurant

Since opening on September 6th, 1978, The Smokey Pig Restaurant has become a landmark for local residents and travelers who appreciate its "elegantly informal" atmosphere and fine home cooked foods. "The Pig" is not only famous for its Hickory Smoked Barbecue, but for the vast variety of home cooked and southern style meals made on premises daily.
